Apocalypse was recorded in 1974 by a newly reformed Mahavisnu Orchestra alongside the famous producer George Martin and incorporates his knowledge of orchestration along with John McLaughlins knowledge of jazz fusion. This is a beautiful album from the very start. Apocalypse is a progressive rock band from Brazil that plays symphonic rock with strong electronic keyboard orientation. [1] The lineup of Apocalypse consisted of Eloy Fritsch (electronic keyboards), Carlos D'Elia (bass), Ruy Fritsch (guitars), Rainer Steiner (drums) and Gustavo Demarchi (lead vocal and flute). The End Is Nigh, Apocalypse Orchestra’s debut full length, seamlessly weaves medieval-style melodies with crushing, epic doom metal in the vein of bands like Candlemass and Swallow The Sun. Apocalypse Orchestra was formed by mult-instrumentalists Mikael (Vocals, guitars, mandola, lute and cittern) and Erik (Hurdy gurdy, mandola, bagpipes, backing vocals) who developed a bond over their mutual love of the unlikely combination of folk music and doom metal. The first recording of the second Mahavishnu Orchestra was a real stretch for John McLaughlin, an encounter with Michael Tilson Thomas and the London Symphony Orchestra.The union wasn't taken seriously at the time, and it ended up harming the reputation of Thomas-- a remarkably adventurous young conductor who defied the stuffy classical powers-that-be and thus probably delayed his eventual
